Career Uncertainty in a Post-Pandemic World

While the peak of the pandemic has passed, the impact of COVID-19 on the U.S. workforce is evident and ever evolving. The Great Resignation, also known as the Big Quit, has seen employees voluntarily resign from their jobs en masse since 2021. The ongoing economic trend is complex and the result of a number of causes including health concerns due to the virus, wage stagnation, the rising cost of living and overall job dissatisfaction.

University of Phoenix’s Career Institute® 2022 Career Optimism Index® study, an annual report that assesses the status of U.S. workers and career trajectories, reveals that resignation and job uncertainty are widespread among the population. Nearly 1 in 3 Americans say they would quit their jobs without another lined up, while 4 in 10 workers worry that advancements in technology will render their job-related skills obsolete.

Biweekly Career Insights

To provide support and accessible career guidance to U.S. workers, at the start of this year, University of Phoenix launched its Career With Confidence™ newsletter. LinkedIn invited the University to produce the newsletter as part of an early access group publishing articles on the professional networking platform. The editions share career-oriented content featuring thought leadership on career strategy and advice from career development experts.

Previous editions of the newsletter discuss topics like finding, recruiting and retaining the right recommendations, creating a positive office culture and thoughts on the four-day work week. The newsletter complements University of Phoenix’s Career Services for Life® pledge, which offers an extensive suite of career services and support and provides active students and graduates of degree and certificate programs with a range of resources including:

  • Career exploration tools
  • Career coaching and salary negotiation
  • Job search support
  • Resume building and interview preparation
  • Personal brand development
  • Networking and mentorship opportunities
  • Video content

The University’s Career Services for Life® commitment also includes career blogs, and the Career With Confidence™ newsletter often highlights this content for subscribers.

Top-Performing Content on LinkedIn

Aimed at professionals, LinkedIn is the only social networking platform that allows pages to publish long-form content, such as articles and blogs, that probe deeper into business-related topics and encourages community conversations. LinkedIn currently features University of Phoenix’s newsletter on its Marketing Solutions microsite as an example of a top-performing publication for its use of best practices to make clear and compelling content.

Back in March 2022, an article by LinkedIn’s Chief Product Officer Tomer Cohen highlighted the Career With Confidence™ newsletter alongside other noteworthy newsletters by Business Insider, Zoom and Harvard Business Review, among others.

Decades of Career Development Expertise

Jay Titus, vice president of Workforce Solutions Group at University of Phoenix, said the newsletter’s popularity points to the current level of career mobility interest within the U.S. workforce and the relevance of the University’s expertise. Workforce Solutions helps organizations create tailored learning pathways to recruit, upskill or reskill, and retain their workforce through education programs, workshops and various credit options.

Titus emphasized that the University has always focused on how students can get the most from their education and enhance their careers and added that the newsletter represents the accumulation of decades of extensive experience and career development talent.
